Professor Liao's research interests primarily focus on two key areas: the application of psychometrics in medical education and the use of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) within the context of medical education. Professor Liao's professional training is rooted in mathematics and cognitive science. Over the past 20 years, his quantitative research has concentrated on applying inter-rater reliability and Generalizability Theory in medical education. Since 2019, he has expanded his research into qualitative methodologies, particularly using grounded theory in the study of educational ecology. In 2022, he began integrating his prior academic training and research experience to conduct curriculum development and evaluation studies using mixed research methods. Over the past decade, his studies have been widely published in prominent journals such as Medical Education and BMC Medical Education, with a strong focus on the application of SEL in medical education.
