My major research interests are to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of how neurotrophic factors and steroid hormones regulate neuronal survival and functions, and to examine the possible roles of neurotrophic factors and steroid hormones in treating neurodegenerative diseases and neural injuries such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. We study the aforementioned questions using various transgenic mice and knockout mice including APPswe, PSEN1dE9 mice, androgen receptor knockout mice and several other animal models such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury (SCI), cerebral angioapathy (CAA), stroke and Parkinson’s disease animal models. Moreover, I am interested in studying factors regulating bone repair and osteoporosis such as hormones and BMP2. Recently, I also focus on studying how biomaterials facilitate bone repair.
